Snow Day

We have a weather forecast with the mention of snow, starting again tonight! Woo-hoo!

It hasn’t snowed for a few days but there is still plenty out there. We spent an hour or so this morning clearing snow off the drive so we could get the car out to do shopping! I keep hearing conflicting reports of how much snow we’re getting. The predictions range from 2 – 12 inches by Monday evening. I hope not – we must have had 10 inches already!

Yeah, we need more snow!

We need another pair of socks

I am currently wearing 2 coats, 2 scarves, 2 hats and 2 pairs of socks when I go out. Up until today I have not been cold. Today the temperature didn’t go above minus 2, Thursday morning it was minus 13 when I walked to the office yet it felt colder today! Odd!

Stay warm and safe.

Minus

This was the scene when I opened my front door at 7am this morning.

It has continued to snow all day….

This is the view from my office window at lunchtime today. Too cold to take a night shot.
Anyway one good thing comes of the snow – lots of knitting.

I thought it would be a good idea to stay up and see how long it snowed for last night. It started around 11pm and at 2am was still coming down at which point I decided I needed some sleep!
When I got to Costa Coffee  this morning I discovered I had grabbed the wrong knitting bag when leaving home and so we have more Kaffe.

Stay safe and warm.

Pray the forecasters have it wrong. A severe weather warning at 6pm said West Berkshire is expected to be the worse hit in the Uk over the next 24 hours. It is only 7pm and look what we have already!

Knitting will keep me warm!

Chilly

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Another very chilly day and it seems this cold weather is set for a week or two. More snow forecast tomorrow – please not as much as last time.

Anyway cold outside means stay warm with your knitting inside.

Pucura is nearly finished and I cannot wait to wear it.

pucara040110 002.jpg

I have the second sleeve to finish and then have the sleeves to sew in. I have treated myself to a new book in the hope it will help me set the sleeves in just right. The book is by Debbie Bliss.

I naturally have a pair of socks on the go. The latest being in some Kaffe yarn.

Take care on those slippery pavements!

Lovely

Earlier in the year I said I was going to put together my own personal sock along once the Get Knitted Sock Club had come to an end. Well phase 1 is called Kaffe. Yes I am knitting up all my Kaffe Fassett sock yarn during 2010. I have enough for 7 pairs of socks. If only I could knit a pair a week.

First up we have

It seems hard to believe that we are far approaching 2010 and what a year 2009 has been! Anyway I finished something Debbie Abrahams Mystery Blanket 2008!

2008.jpg
The blanket is called “In the country” and i
f I say so myself I think it is wonderful. I wrapped it up and gave it to David on Christmas morning and he loves it. It has given me the motivation to finish the 2009 blanket.

My friend Liz sent me a photo of hers – very different but very beautiful.

The name for this bkanket was  Arabian Nights. I wonder what the theme for 2010 will be, rumour has it blue/green, wool cotton and aquatic.

Best Wishes for a successful 2010.

Knitting

The lovely Jane Ellison got back to me and I have been able to finish the fronts of Pucara.

The back is also growing

pucara_back.jpg

I am looking forward to wearing this one. I think it will look great with a smart pair of trousers for the office or equally great with a smart pair of jeans for a more relaxed wear!

Sock number 2 is doing well also thanks to a couple of coffees care of

imgLogoCaffeNero3.gif 06122009.jpgI also have a little project on the go at the moment. My friend Emma had a baby girl, Cerys, a couple of months ago. I wanted to knit Cerys a little cardigan so set about looking through my Debbie collection of books and decided upon this.

img-Baby_Cashmerino_23.jpg                                                                                                                                  Cardigan with moss stitch edging

The back and 2 fronts are finished leaving 2 sleeves and I have even done half of one of those.

I hope to get the second one of this pair finished by the end of the year!

I have just looked in my draw of knitted socks this year – there are only 6 pairs. So what exactly have I knitted this year? I am not so sure it is a great deal!

2009 has been a bit of a roller coaster in more ways than one so 2010 can only be better. Let’s hope it is filled iwth knitterly fun!

Precious

Almost ready to wear just in time for party season.

I have some velvet ribbon to make the ties. I must admit it does look tiny but it is a fit I am pleased with and actually feels wam so shouldbe snug on a cold winters evening!

Sock Number 2

I think I have said before how much I love the colours in my latest Rainforest socks. I am on to sock number 2.

As the weather is starting to change, now is a great time to knit some woolly socks whether they be for yourself or a present for a friend or ralative. There are loads of yarns to choose from but becoming one of my favourite collections is the new Rainforest V collection from Opal.

Tea Party

Last Sunday I was lucky enough to have afternoon tea and cake with the lovely Ysolda. Ysolda was at the Town Hall
in Reading for the afternoon as part of her UK tour. She had with her samples of her designs and was on hand to sign copies of her book.
There was also the opportunity to buy hand-dyed yarn from
Skein Queen. I have been tempted a few times over the last few months but this was the first time I have got to see the yarn. So with Christmas coming I had an excuse – 2 skeins are for socks for David and 1 for me.
 blissful_windfall.jpg
blissful_autumnblaze.jpg
enchantsmokedsalmon.jpg

Skein 1 for David – Autumn Blaze in the Blissful yarn. 100% British Blue Faced Leicester in a 4 ply sock weight.

Skein 2 for David – Windfall also in the Blissful yarn.

skein 3 is for me – Smoked Salmon in the Enchant yarn.

I haven’t wound these yet as I still have socks on the needles and am trying to be tough with myself when it comes to starting something new when there are already “projects” on the needles.

Happy Knitting
